Wide-Flange (W) shapes are the workhorse of Canadian structural steel construction — an I-shaped profile with parallel flanges, used as beams, columns, and everything in between across virtually every type of building and bridge structure. Their efficient distribution of material away from the neutral axis gives excellent bending strength for their weight, and the wide range of depths and weights in the CISC 12 series means there's a W shape suited to almost any span or load.
